I wanted to pen to paper this one for a while. This piece will still not do it justice but I want to let out some thoughts.
I've been reading Peter Thiel's Zero to One book recently and it had occurred to me while turning the pages that I have been successful due to a lot of the principles he stated there. Out of shear instinct and quick decision making, we were able to avoid the pitfall of many other businesses and continue to grow even at our massive size.
Pictured above is google's data on search results for the term 'Undetectable AI'. It started in March '23, coincidentally we also started in March '23 and used the term Undetectable AI in our marketing.
I used the traditional entrepreneurial mind set, set out to find a problem and solve it. The difference is that I am a gambling man. Instead of looking for problems that currently exist, I was seeking out problems that didn't exist but would. I was following the AI space very closely after ChatGPT launched and saw its massive rise to prominence. I knew that people were going to care if the content they were reading was AI or not. A lot of people doubted this for something, as if its preposterous to say that people might care if all the content they suddenly see one day is generated by an LLM. Time reveals all victors, and my idea proved to be true. Not only was it correct but the AI Detection and Undetectable AI world is one of the best businesses you can currently own in the entire space. We often outcompete larger projects with more name recognition, and VC money.
If I had gone into a space where there was already existing competition, I most likely would have failed and floundered like many businesses do. Instead we have insane growth metrics despite very little investment and a space that is littered with low-effort copy cats.
My advice for you to build a new business is look out into the world, see what the new trends are, identify potential problems, and ask would people be willing to pay to solve those problems? That seems to be the best question an entrepreneur can ask at this stage. Luckily for you the world is always changing. Prior to November '22, a business like mine was never necessary. Then overnight ChatGPT changes the world and allowed me to build a multi-million dollar business. This will be far from the last major technological shift we will see in our lifetimes.
The biggest mistake you can do is focus on just the problems of today. Think of it like this, people like me are already working on the problems of today, and we have an arsenal of resources. Go to where no one is, but where everyone will be in a short amount of time.
